Summary

The international community is at a critical threshold in space policy. Science has advanced to a point where weapons and technologies that were once the exclusive domain of science fiction have become reality and new powers such as China threaten to unseat the United States as the global leader in space. The presence of these new powers creates new issues for the international community, all of which will need to be addressed in the decades to come.

Militarization of Space provides a history of space exploration and militarization, analyzing past and current laws governing space and addressing future expected developments in the field. Case studies in this new volume include the United States, Russia, the European Space Agency, China, and some of the emerging players, including Japan, North Korea, South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Iran. An index, bibliography, and tables and graphs round out this insightful and timely resource.
