About the Author(s)

Erik Hanson lives near Minneapolis. His area, biological science writing, has led him to do magazine and newspaper pieces on topics as varied as meteor showers, city park ecology, and brain research. He has worked as a researcher's assistant in the Alzheimer's Research Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and is coauthor of the geography-related book The Everything Kids' Travel Activity Book.

The foreword was written by Geoffrey H. Nash, a geologist with wide experience in surface mapping of rock formations, oil and gas exploration, environmental engineering, and surface water quality. Nash also has interests in paleontology, fossils, and natural selection. He received a B.A. from Knox College in Illinois and an M.B.A. from Boston University.
